Founded in 1990 in Rio de Janeiro.

Stimulating reflection, providing spaces for debate, raising other people's awareness to contemporary art issues, generating intellectual and affective encounters, as well as supporting and investing in the formation and information of new audiences are some of the actions the Company has been developing for 26 years.

The company is active throughout the year, with classes, rehearsals of the repertoire, and research and creation work, always in collaboration with the dancer-artists.

The Company has performed in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais, Acre, Tocantins, Rondônia, Espírito Santo, Bahia, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Pará, and Brasília (Federal District). 

Internationally, in Israel, France, the United States, Germany, Portugal, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Slovenia, Hungary, Sweden, Romania, Norway, Peru, Argentina, Chile, United Kingdom, Austria, Switzerland and Canada.

In 2003, Lia Rodrigues Companhia de Danças was invited by Silvia Soter to collaborate with Redes de Desenvolvimento da Maré, in Morro do Timbau, to where it transferred its daily activities, helping to build and guarantee the maintenance of an adequate place for dance, besides offering classes and workshops for young people from the community and donating a large collection of dance videos and books. In 2004, expanding its actions, the Company performed in this space the creation of: Against those hard to please, Encarnado, Hymnen, presentations of its repertoire what we are made of and brief forms ; presentation of the rehearsal of the show "Isabel Torres", by French choreographer Jérome Bel; season of the show "Movente", by Rio de Janeiro choreographer Paula Nestorov; workshops and workshops with teachers and guest artists; residence of the dance company Paula Nestorov. All these activities were free of charge, attracting a diversified audience.

In 2007, the Company, always in partnership with Redes da Maré, started a new project in the community of Nova Holanda, in Maré. The creation of the Mare Arts Center, a place for sharing, conviviality and exchange of knowledge, directed to the formation, creation, diffusion and production of arts. CAM, besides being the headquarters of Lia Rodrigues Dance Company, houses among other initiatives the Escola Livre de Dança da Maré. 

At Centro de Artes da Maré, the Company created POROROCA and PIRACEMA, besides having developed the project "dança para todos" between 2008 and 2009 with free classes in body awareness, contemporary dance for young people and creative dance for children.

Besides the performances, the company organizes and offers lectures, debates and workshops for both beginners and professionals in dance. 

In 1999 she organized classes for primary school teachers of CIEPS in several cities in Brazil (São Luiz do Maranhão, Marabá, Catas Altas-MG, Parauapebas) in the project Escola que Vale for the Fundação Vale do Rio Doce. In 2005 it participated in the TIM - Music project, giving dance classes in several schools in low-income neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro for 500 young people in the first and second grades.

The company has supported other dance companies or artists that did not count with support or sponsorship such as: Paula Nestorov, Duda Maia, Gustavo Ciríaco, Frederico Paredes and Carmen Luz.
