Actor, playwright, and dancer Jhonny Salaberg was born in Guaianases, in the eastern part of São Paulo. He trained at the Escola Livre de Teatro de Santo André (SP). He has been a member of several theater companies in São Paulo, including the collectives Estopô Balaio, Bonde, and Cia. Clandestina. He is one of the founders and members of Carcaça de Poéticas Negras, an artistic collective focused on research into racial-theatrical creation, where he honed his playwriting skills with the works *Mato cheio – fuga degenerada* and *Buraquinhos ou O vento é inimigo do picumã*, which addresses the genocide of young, Black people in the periphery.

 

The latter play won first place at the 4th Festival of Playwriting in Small-Scale Theatrical Formats, held by the São Paulo Cultural Center. This victory cemented Salaberg’s place as the first Black playwright to receive this honor at the festival.

 

He is the founder and coordinator of Fórum Preto, a movement of Black people dedicated to discussing the place of Black people both within and outside educational institutions.

 

In his work published by Cobogó, it is evident that the author consistently addresses the Black experience and positions himself as the protagonist of his stories. It is also clear that he places Black people from the periphery at the center of his narratives; the violence they endure is the central theme, alongside the vulnerability that Black individuals face in our contemporary society.
